TODAY'S MOMENT: A TRIBUTE TO MY FRIEND CAIYA

As I reflect on my journey at our beloved school, one person stands out in my heart and mind - my dear friend and colleague, Caiya. Our story began in 2017, and now, as we face the closure of our school on July 24, 2024, I am filled with a deep sense of gratitude for the moments we have shared and the memories we have created. Come September, we will no longer be working side by side, but the bond we have built will endure.

Caiya and I shared a unique connection. We often finished each other's sentences, spoke each other's thoughts, and even said the same things at the same time in perfect synchrony.

It was as if our minds were beautifully intertwined, a testament to the profound friendship we cultivated.

Without any prior planning, we would arrive at work dressed in coordinated outfits, a delightful coincidence that always brought a smile to our faces. This unspoken harmony mirrored the way we complemented each other in our professional roles.

Caiya’s meticulous attention to detail, especially when she proofread my work, was invaluable, as we joked about English not being my first language. She turned my words into polished pieces, always with a touch of humour and grace.

Friendship comes in many forms, and working together allowed us to discover the depths of ours.
We balanced each other's strengths and weaknesses, creating a dynamic and effective team.
Caiya's passion for Disney and the theatre infused our days with joy and creativity, reminding us to embrace the magic and drama of life.

Caiya and I share a mutual love for music, which has always been a significant part of our bond. She was our office DJ, curating the perfect playlist each day. I enjoyed every moment of it, except perhaps when she played theatre slow music (lol), but even then, her love for it was infectious. Her love for Christmas is another thing that makes her special; starting December 1, she would wear a different festive jumper every day until Christmas, spreading holiday cheer to everyone around.

Reflecting on our journey, I am reminded of the words from
Proverbs 27:17, "As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another."

Caiya has sharpened me in ways I never anticipated, challenging me to grow and to strive for excellence. Our friendship didn't start off perfectly, but through time and shared experiences, we built something truly special.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 tells us, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up."

My dad always says, "No one is 100% bad." This profound and compassionate viewpoint encourages empathy and understanding. This perspective has undoubtedly shaped my interactions and relationships, guiding me to focus on magnifying people's strengths while praying for their weaknesses. It reminds us that there is potential for goodness in everyone, no matter their flaws or past mistakes. Such an outlook fosters a supportive and nurturing environment where people feel seen and valued for their positive qualities.

As we prepare to part ways professionally, I hold onto the countless moments that have turned into cherished memories. Caiya, I will miss you more than words can express. Your presence has been a gift, and our friendship a blessing that I will carry with me always.

In the spirit of International Friendship Day, I want to celebrate the essence of our friendship. This day reminds us of the power of bonds that transcend borders, cultures, and circumstances. Caiya, you have been more than a colleague - you have been a true friend who has made every day brighter and every challenge more manageable.

Let us continue to nurture the friendships we have formed. Let us remember that every moment holds the potential to become a treasured memory.

Thank you, Caiya, for being an amazing friend and colleague. Our paths may diverge, but the memories we have created will forever remain in my heart.

Blessings and warmest wishes for your future endeavours.

Happy International Friendship Day!
